Headford Celebrates an Extraordinary Display of Community Spirit at Community Showcase

Headford, Co. Galway – 20th September 2026: What a fantastic afternoon it was at the Headford & District Association Community Group Showcase, where local community groups from Headford and the surrounding area came together to connect, inspire and showcase the incredible work they do throughout the community.

Hosted by the Headford & District Association (HaDA) at St. Fursa’s Hall, the event brought together 27 community and volunteer groups, providing an opportunity to highlight their activities, meet potential new members and volunteers, and celebrate the remarkable contribution of community-led initiatives across the area.

The event was honoured by the attendance of Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council, Cllr Andrew Reddington and Cllr Mary Hoade, whose presence helped recognise the extraordinary spirit of volunteerism that exists; recognising and acknowledging the invaluable work being carried out by volunteers throughout Headford and the surrounding communities.

A special mention goes to the Headford Community First Responders, who kindly provided tea, coffee and a wonderful selection of delicious treats, helping to create a welcoming atmosphere throughout the afternoon.

The showcase featured an impressive range of community organisations, representing sport, culture, heritage, the arts, the environment, health and wellbeing, social inclusion and community development.

Groups represented included: Headford Community First Responders, Moyne Villa, Headfest, Headford GAA & LGFA, Headford Men’s Shed, Corrib Male Singers, Headford Tidy Towns, Headford Community Garden, Headford Lace Project, Ross Errilly Tours, Headford Historical Society, Clara ICA, Solas, The Cycle – Wellness Academy, Headford Something in the Water, Headford Library, Headford Music Works, 26th Galway – Kilcoona Scout Group, Headford Bridge Club, Tuam Headford Special Olympics, Ciorcal Comhrá Áth Cinn, Headford Community Games, NARGC – Carers of the Countryside, No Name Club, Donnaghpartrick Kilcoona Heritage Society, Headford Little Libraries, Headford Environment Group and Headford Harriers.

The afternoon provided a wonderful reminder of just how much happens behind the scenes through the dedication, enthusiasm and generosity of local volunteers.

The message from the day was clear: Headford has an extraordinary wealth of community organizations, activities and people willing to give their time to make a difference.
