Congratulations to Dolores Keane, Doctor of Music (DMus)

Dr. Dolores Keane

On Friday 22 November, the President of NUIG. Peter McHugh, bestowed the honour of Honorary Doctor to Dolores Keane, from Caherlistrane, Co. Galway.

Dr. Méabh Ní Fhuarthain in her citation traced Dolores’ journey from the humble beginnings in Carragh Cottage to worldwide recognition on the international stage.

Highlighting her recordings with De Dannan, John Faulkner and Woman’s Heart and naming songs like Caledonia, The Island and Lion in a Cage, she said Dolores was able to bridge the gap between the old séan nos songs and modern music and her unique voice was recognisable all over the world.

Dolores was delighted to accept the honour with her family gathered around her.
