JOYCE COUNTRY & WESTERN LAKES GEOPARK PROJECT
Joyce Country & Western Lakes Geopark Project are pleased to announce new sessions of our Geopark Ambassador course starting in a couple of weeks. It’s free and open to all.
The course will consist of two 90 mins session and only be offered online through zoom in small groups to allow for some interactions and a possibility of Q&A. This is how we had operated before due to the restrictions and although, it is not as good as in person, it limits the costs and the commuting of participants. We are offering two different groups at this stage running on Mondays in the morning and Wednesdays in the evening. See further details below.
Objectives: Learn about the geopark project and how to orient yourselves and your visitors in the geopark region using the geological map. Learn about the sites of interests and what to see there.
Outcome: The attendants to this course will gain a basic understanding as to the significance of the geological heritage of the region and be able to convey it to their visitors. They will also gain tools to utilise the geopark as a marketing tool.
Logistics: 2 sessions of 1.5 hours on Zoom with groups of limited numbers. There will be a ½ day field trip component to the course. The date of the field session will be discussed after the online part is completed.
Dates: Group 1 (Monday);
Session 1 on Monday 20 January 2025 from 10am
Session 2 on Monday 27 January 2025 from 10am
Group 2 (Wednesday);

Session 2 on Monday 29 January 2025 from 7pm
Delivery: Benjamin Thébaudeau, geopark geologist

Material: Registered attendants need a device with decent internet connection, preferably a PC. The entirety of the course will be delivered through Zoom via a PowerPoint presentation, with room for Q&A throughout. Some interactive activities will also be offered (e.g. map to colour, image quiz). Some pdf documents will be made available to download and print but printing them is not a requirement.
Certificate: A certificate of participation/completion will be delivered upon attendance of both 1.5 hour Zoom sessions and the fieldtrip.
If you are interested, please contact geologist@jcwlgeopark.ie and specify which of the groups you want to join. Registration is free and will be on a first come first served basis.
Spread the message around to those you think might be interested and don’t worry if these times do not suit, the course will be offered again in the future.
