Headford Community Theatre presents The Country Boy by John Murphy

Headford Community Theatre will be staging John Murphy’s The Country Boy for 4 nights from Thursday Nov 28th to Sunday Dec 1st in St Fursey’s Hall Headford, starting nightly at 8.00pm.

The Country Boy: A Play in Three Acts is by Irish playwright, John Murphy (1924–1998). Himself a country boy and native of Charlestown, County Mayo who emigrated to the United States of America, The Country Boy reflects on the social problems of emigration and rural life in the late 1950s.

Curly is twenty-five, and stuck living at home on the farm with his parents. He yearns to move on, get married to sweetheart Eileen, and find a life of his own. But Curly’s father Tom is not a man for change, so Curly is finding it very difficult to leave home. 

When Curly’s older brother Eddie comes home from America on holidays, he begins to see all of the paths he could take. But which road will he go down, and will he do it for the right reasons?
