Muay Thai Arrives in Headford
Commonly referred to as Thai Boxing or the “Art of Eight Limbs,” Muay Thai is an ancient martial art and Thailand’s national sport. It is a stand-up combat sport that uses a wide variety of strikes, including punches, elbows, knees, kicks, and clinching techniques, and is practiced by millions worldwide. Classes started in May of this year in Headford and were very well received by the community, judging by the number of members who joined the club. A sport that’s constantly evolving, Muay Thai has gained popularity in recent years due to the rise of mixed martial arts in mainstream media.
Current members from Headford and surrounding areas range from ages 14 to 55, men and women of all fitness levels and experience. They have started reaping the benefits of training, including improved fitness, weight loss, stress relief, confidence, and general wellbeing. In a world that moves at such a fast pace, we tend to forget that many things that are important and worth achieving, and that will stand the test of time, don’t happen quickly. It takes time, commitment, perseverance, and hard work to build something lasting: a strong body and a strong mind. As the saying goes, “Rome was not built in a day.”
Muay Thai is a sport that’s accessible and beneficial to everybody, whether you want to get fit, lose weight, build confidence, learn a new life skill, or are interested in competing in the future, Renegade Muay Thai will guide you on your journey. Training is under the tutelage of myself, Silviu Tinica (aka T-Bob Tinica, my fighting name), a former professional fighter and champion, coach, and practitioner with over 30 years of experience in various martial arts.
Classes are held at the St. Fursa’s Community Hall in Headford on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:00–7:15 pm, in a fun, friendly, yet challenging environment.
