Launch of Headford Youth Theatre
The launch of Headford Youth Theatre feels like the beginning of something important for our town. After years of watching young people grow in confidence and creativity, we’re finally bringing their work into the heart of the community, and we’d love you to be part of that moment. On Friday 5 December at 7.15pm in the Anglers Rest Hotel, just after the Christmas Lights Switch-On, we’re inviting families, friends and neighbours to join us for a short gathering to introduce Headford Youth Theatre and to reveal the cast of this year’s panto, Cinderella. There will be tea, coffee, hot chocolate and a few treats, nothing fancy, just a warm space to come together and support the young performers who have put their heart into this. It’s only a half hour event, and you will still be home in time for the Late Late Toy Show. If you care about seeing young people thrive, if you believe in giving them a place to belong and a chance to shine, please come along. Your presence would mean a lot to them, and it would mean a lot to us too. This is the start of something special for Headford. We’d love to

Green Flag for Headford Community Garden.
Headford Community Garden have been awarded a Green Flag for 2025/2026! The Green Flag Award is the international quality benchmark for the public green space sector – now operating in 30 countries around the world, including the U.S. and for the first time this year, Ukraine. Now in its 30th year, the programme uses eight key criteria for its assessment. All sites implement a management framework, and then undergo an annual inspection conducted by qualified judges. Once again Ireland has secured its lead in high quality park amenities with more Green Flag Awards being secured by Irish parks and public gardens than by any country, other than the UK where the scheme originated in 1996. Congrats to all involved!

Kilcoona Scouts Prepare for Backwoods Survival Challenge
By 26th Galway Kilcoona Scouts Each year our Scouts compete in Survivor, a Scouting Ireland backwoods challenge. They are given a strict list of items they can bring for their two night stay in the woods, and their bags are checked for ‘contraband’ on arrival. Depending on the difficulty level they opt for, they spend the two nights either underneath a tarp shelter they construct themselves, or on the tougher challenge, under a shelter constructed from entirely natural materials. It’s a tough weekend. Food is limited and sometimes comes in the form of a skinned rabbit, head still attached… All cooking is done by fire. Scout Leaders and trained first aiders stay on the periphery keeping an eye out – aside from this the Scouts are on their own and reliant on their own skills, wit, teamwork, and attitude. They use knives, axes, saws, ferro rods (similar to flint and steel) and more to ensure they are sheltered, fed, and watered for their duration deep in the woods. On the weekend gone by our Scouts and Ventures hammocked in the woods to prepare for the event, and they head off for Survivor on 31st Oct to 2nd November. We wish

Headford Lace Project
Headford, and lots of Ireland, have had a rough couple of weeks. Storm Éowyn arrived on January 24th and ripped through felling trees, damaging buildings and leaving thousands of people without power, water or communications. As we are slowly rebuilding, fixing, tidying and reconnecting it’s been hugely heartening to see the community pulling together to help and share. Our own Lace Matrix withstood another explosive cyclogenesis, this time with hurricane strength winds showing again the resilience of this delicate craft… Headford’s heart is strong! #Headford #lacematrix #cyclogenesis #stormeowyn #headfordlace

Men On The Move
